Rajiv Gandhi International stadium

Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium: The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) sought to construct a new stadium as a result of the HCA’s limited access to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium, which belongs to the Sport Authority of Telangana State. The Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium was also viewed as being too tiny to handle international matches because to its size.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, instantly endorsed the HCA’s request to construct a new stadium. A offer of Rs. 65,000,000 from Visaka Industries Ltd won the auction to determine who would be the land’s owner. The firm was also used to name the stadium. But former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy chose to rename it in honor of Rajiv Gandhi, a former prime minister of India.

South Africa and India played their first game here in 2005. India has since played four times there, but it has not been a happy hunting ground as they have dropped three of the five ODIs they have played there. But India has been successful in Test matches, winning two of the three matches.

In Hyderabad, Telangana, India, there is a cricket stadium called the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. It takes over 16 acres (65,000 square meters) and can accommodate 40,000 people. The Hyderabad Cricket Association and Sunrisers Hyderabad call it home. It has held 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 2 T20Is as of 3 March 2019. Here, the 2017 IPL opener and championship match as well as the 2019 IPL championship game were played.
